J. Sophia Fu (Ph.D., Northwestern University) is an associate professor at the Department of Communication in the School of Communication and Information of Rutgers University. Her research interests revolve around hybrid organizing, social networks, digital technologies, and social innovation and impact. Fu is dedicated to applying a range of quantitative, computational, and qualitative methods to answering one question: How can organizations more effectively tackle societal challenges? She received a master’s degree in Statistics, a management certificate from the Kellogg School of Management, and Ph.D. in Media, Technology, and Society all from Northwestern University.
Her work has appeared in top peer-reviewed journals, such as the Business & Society, Communication Research, Journal of Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Management Communication Quarterly, Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly, and Information, Communication, & Society. She has won awards for her research from the Academy of Management, Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Sector, International Communication Association, National Communication Association, Association for Chinese Communication Studies, International Chinese Communication Association, and the National Science Foundation. Her honors span a range of distinctions, such as outstanding dissertation awards, top conference paper awards, distinguished published journal article awards, and early career scholar recognitions.
