Sophia Fu is currently a PhD candidate at the Media, Technology, and Society program of Northwestern University. She works at Prof. Michelle Shumate‘s Network for Nonprofit and Social Impact Lab. Her research interests include social networks, collective action, entrepreneurship and social innovation, nonprofit organizations, and information communication technologies (ICTs). At Northwestern, Sophia actively collaborates with faculty members at School of Communication, Kellogg School of Management, and McCormick School of Engineering. She received a master’s degree in Statistics and a management certificate from Northwestern.
Her work has appeared in top peer-reviewed journals in communication, such as Journal of Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Information, Communication, & Society, and The Information Society. She has won awards for her research from the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management (2016) and the Organizational Communication Division of the International Communication Association (2017). Recently, Sophia received support for her dissertation work from the Decision, Risk, and Management Sciences (DRMS) division of the National Science Foundation.
